THE MSC

The Master's Program in Clinical Psychology at NKUA aims to train and specialize psychologists in Clinical Psychology.

Clinical psychology is the psychological specialty that integrates science, theory and clinical knowledghe for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving psychologically-based distress and dysfunction and to promote wellebing and development. Clinical psychology provides continuing and comprehensive mental and behavioral health care for individuals, couples, families, and groups; consultation to agencies and communities; training, education and supervision; and research-based practice. The scope of clinical psychology encompasses all ages, multiple diversities, and varied systems. 

Our MSc Program adopts the scientist-practitioner approach, which emphasizes the integration of scientific research and clinical practice. We striive to develop psychologists who are equally well-rounded as clinical scientists and practitioners. Pur program model trains students to not only apply evidence-based psychological interventions but also to engage in research that informs and enhances clinical work. By grounding clinical skills in empirical research, graduates are prepared to contribute to the advancement of the field while delivering effective, scientifically-backed psychological services in various professional settings.

Our Master's Program prepares psychologists who will be able to effectively combine knowledge in:

1. Assessment – diagnosis of personality, psychopathology, and mental functioning using psychometric tools
2. Psychotherapeutic intervention (individual, family, group)
3. Prevention of psychological dysfunctions and disorders at both individual and community levels
4. Psychosocial rehabilitation
5. Research in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and prevention.

The target group is the entire population, covering the entire age spectrum from infancy to old age, as well as all social and ethno-cultural groups, given that the ultimate goal of the science of Clinical Psychology is the promotion of the mental health of the entire population.

The educational model of the our Master's Program emphasizes both academic and professional training, in line with the standards of postgraduate programs abroad. The primary goal of the proposed program is high-level and comprehensive training in the field of application. To achieve this, the program includes: (1) theoretical-academic training and (2) practical training that covers the full range of clinical applications.

Graduates of the program will combine high-level academic knowledge, research skills, and significant practical experience in their professional practice.

Upon completion of the program, students will be trained and thus able to competently practice the following work of a clinical psychologist, both independently and in collaboration with other professionals. Graduates will perform this work by: (a) staffing hospitals, mental health centers, relevant services of the Ministry of Health, counseling centers, drug rehabilitation units, diagnostic centers, and equivalent services of local government organizations; (b) teaching in continuing education courses and training seminars on clinical psychology topics.
